Shipping Cats

We ship often and can assure you that this is not overtly stressful on kittens or adult cats.
We have never had a cat or kitten have a problem during shipping.
Bagheera Bengals ships our cats and kittens via jet service from the Dothan Regional Airport through Atlanta via the Delta Connection. We will notify you a day or more, if possible, ahead of time when we have scheduled shipment. Included will be the airline, flight number, and time of arrival. When we consign the kitten to the airline we will telephone you to let you know it is on the way. You will need to be at the air cargo facility for the airline to retrieve your kitten. You should call the airline for directions. As soon as you get the kitten, please call us and let us know. Prior to shipping we must have an executed contract and full payment. Most airlines flying larger aircraft (not commuter planes) accept live animals as cargo and have made special provisions for their handling. The cat will travel with other pets in a special area of the cargo department which is pressurized and temperature controlled. The airlines advise the flight crew that animals are onboard the aircraft. Temperature Restrictions have been established by the the United States Department of Agriculture and airlines to ensure animals are not exposed to extreme heat or cold in the animal holding areas, terminal facilities, when moving the animals between terminal and aircraft or on an aircraft awaiting departure. Pets cannot be accepted when the current or forecasted temperature is above 85 degrees Fahrenheit at any location on the itinerary. Pets cannot be accepted when the ground temperature is below 45 degrees Fahrenheit at any location on the itinerary UNLESS the pet has a veterinarian's statement of low temperature acclimation. Bagheera will secure the statement of acclimation if necessary. An airline will NOT guarantee acceptance of an animal it has not seen. Important considerations for acceptance of animals include the health and disposition of the animal, and proper health certificates. Other important considerations are kennel markings and sizing. The USDA assigns airlines the final responsibility for determining the safety and compliance of the kennels they accept. Airlines must also ensure that they have facilities to handle animals at the airports of transfer and final destination. Airlines are not required to carry live animals, and they do reserve the right to refuse to carry an animal for any reason. The cost for shipping anywhere within the U.S. is usually about $177. It is our practice to ship C.O.D., so that you pay for the shipping when you pick the kitten up. Two kittens may be shipped in the same carrier for the price of one. Prior to shipping your Bengal kitten will be thoroughly checked by our vet and an official health certificate obtained. |
