Felix the Cat. One of the first great stars of the animated cartoon and the hero of Pat Sullivan's cartoon strip series "Felix the Cat."  Felix was created by Otto Messmer.

Garfield. Striped and bulgy-eyed comic strip cat known for his obnoxious comments, hefty appetite, and lazy lifestyle. Often played nasty tricks on his owner Jon and fellow family pet Odie, the dog. Garfield was created by Jim Davis and made its first appearance in 1978. Since then Garfield has appeared in newspapers and television.

Heathcliff. An orange cat who is always getting into trouble in one way or another and got his cartoon start in 1973 on the funny pages, about five years before Garfield. The comic strip was created by George Gatley. The mischievous cat spawned a variety of spin-offs including a series of paperbacks featuring Heathcliff cartoons as well as the animated film Heathcliff the Movie 1985. When not overturning trash cans, eating seafood, romancing Sonja, his pretty Persian cat girlfriend, or chasing mice, Heathcliff spends his time battling a bulldog called Spike.

Hello Kitty is an animated cat created by a Japanese company called Sanrio. Also known as 'Kitty-Chan' she first appeared in 1975 on a plastic coin purse. The popularity of this cute cat has increased over the years and she now appears on many items, from toilet paper to instant noodles.

Stan Hayward's clueless animated cat, Henry, by nature was laid back, and a rather simple kitty. He was standard fare for kids just as they returned home from school. Chris Rabbit and the rest of the gang were always ready to be roped in to all sorts of mischief. Luckily Henry's Cat day dreamed most of the gang's adventures so every episode had a happy ending, usually involving loads of cakes.

Hobbs is featured in the syndicated comic strip Calvin and Hobbs by Bill Watterson. According to Watterson, "Hobbs is named after a seventeenth-century philosopher with a dim view of human nature." Watterson got the inspiration for Hobbs from his cat Sprite. She was an intelligent, friendly, good-natured, gray tabby. She suggested the idea of Hobbes greeting Calvin at the door in midair at high velocity by her enthusiastic "sneak-up-and-pounce" behavior.

Jinks the Cat was the constant, flayful menace of the mice Pixie and Dixie in Hanna-Barbara's first hit cartoon, "The Huckleberry Hound Show." Jinx may have "hated meeces to pieces," but loved his Kellogg's Raisin Bran. The TV series was sponsored nationally by Kellogg's Cereals. The series was a low-budget remake of the old "Tom and Jerry" cartoons, with the addition of an extra mouse.

King Leonardo, later named The King and Odie, began on NBC-TV on October 15, 1960. It was the second color cartoon series on the network's Saturday morning schedule, replacing the first run of Ruff and Reddy. King Leonardo was the ruler of the mythical kingdom of Bongo-Congo and his ever faithful companion Odie Cologne, a skunk who was the real brains behind the throne.

Korky the Cat is from The Dandy Comic. Korky has had many different appearances in his 65 year history (that's 455 in cat years).

Lippy the Lion and his friend Hardy Har Har a hyena premiered 1962. Lippy was, as the name implies, a lion; and Hardy was a rather dour-faced, non-laughing hyena. Lippy would come up with a wonderful but unworkable scheme to achieve whatever goal he was after; but it was usually Hardy, the pessimistic one, who suffered worse from whatever consequences befell them as a result.

Lucifer.  Cinderella's cat who was always trying to catch her mice friends.

Ludwig is the cat in the Arlo & Janis comic strip. Ludwig doesn't do much * except be a cat!! The strip was created by Jimmy Johnson who was born in Alabama and studied journalism at Auburn University. (I can forgive him for that!) The MGM Lion is MGM's trademark lion mascot (a.k.a."Leo") and is seen at the beginning of every MGM feature film. Leo first roared July 31, 1928 for the debut of the movie White Shadows of the South Seas. The roar was heard via a phonograph record since it was a silent movie. The MGM lion logo was created in 1916 for the Goldwin Pictures Corporation by advertising executive Howard Dietz.

Nermal is the self-proclaimed "World's Cutest Kitten," He often flaunts his cuteness and he loves to annoy Garfield about his looks and age. Garfield lets Nermal know he is a pain by mailing him to Adu Dhabi every chance he gets. It doesn't work though because Nermal always manages to get back.  His first appearance was September 3, 1979.

Oil Can Harry was the arch villain opposed to Mighty Mouse with his cry of "Here I Come to Save the Day!" had a full-time job rescuing his girlfriend Pearl Pureheart from the clutches of Oil Can Harry. He first appeared in Terrytoons in 1955

Penelope was an attractive female cat born in New Orleans to French parents. Pepe Le Pew considers her a skunk due to her markings and chose her as his mate and love since 1949. Though she finds him attractive she can't stand his scent. She has been trying to get rid of either him or his scent since their first meeting.

The Pink Panther, created by Friz Freleng, first appeared in 1964 in the opening credits of the comedy film, The Pink Panther, which was about a diamond supposedly flawed in image of a pink panther. The diamond was stolen in the first film. The diamond is never subsequently referred to, but the name stuck because of the distinctive animated character of a pink panther seen in the opening of the first film. The cartoon series was initially produced for theatrical release. The series eventually moved to television, with a Saturday morning cartoon series called "The Think Pink Panther Show" producing a number of additional Pink Panther cartoons.

Puss in Boots is the famous fairy tale cat that made the miller's son rich, conned a king and killed an ogre.  It is a happy story, where the cat cleverly brings his master and the princess together. Puss-in-Boots is well known for his cloak, hat with a feather, bag and high boots.

Riff Raff is a character in the Heathcliff cartoons.

Ruff and Reddy A talking dog and cat cartoon team battling neighborhood bullies. "Get set! Get ready! here come Ruff and Reddy, they're tuff but steady, all ways Ruff and Reddy. They sometime have their little spats even fight like dogs and cats, but when they need each other that's when there Ruff and Reddy" Premiered 1957.

Sargent Tibbs helps rescue the Dalmatian puppies from the evil Cruella De Vil in Disney's 17th animated masterpiece, 101 Dalmatians. It is one of the most cherished and sought-after Disney classics of all time -- and among the last films to bear the personal touch of Walt Disney.

Scratchy is the cat in the duo Itchy & Scratchy. (Itchy is the mouse). Matt Groening created them as the cartoon show within the cartoon show 'The Simpsons'. Violent clashes between the two antagonist result in the death of Scratchy. Not a show for cat lovers!

Sebastian is Alexandra's pet in the cartoon, "Josie and The Pussycats." Sebastian has been able to help Josie and the gang escape from traps and bad guys. However in the comics, it turns out that Sebastian is actually the reincarnation of Alex and Alexandra Cabot's deceased uncle. This particular uncle was prosecuted over 300 years ago for consorting with witches. Alexandra quickly found that she could cast spells when stroking Sebastian's back. Sebastian is also the wonder cat. He gets the group out of all sorts of trouble, by picking locks with his claws, stealing keys, or in true cat fashion digging his claws into the bad guys heads.

Shere Khan is the man-eating tiger from Rudyard Kipling's "Mowgli" stories.  The story became Disney's 19th animated masterpiece, "The Jungle Book."

Si & Am are the two mean Siamese cats from the Disney animation movie, "Lady & the Tramp."

Snagglepuss originally appeared in 1959 as a minor character on episodes of some of Hanna-Barbara's televison cartoons. He had such appeal that he was given his own segment on The Yogi Bear Show when it premiered in 1961. Snagglepuss's favorite sayings were "Exit stage left" and "Heavens to Murgatroid." The voice of Snagglepuss was done by Daws Butler.

Snowball was the original family cat in the televison cartoon sitcom "The Simpsons." Snowball was killed when he was hit by a car. Marge and Homer replaced Snowball with an identical cat Snowball II who now lives with the Simpson family. He is a lively cat that performs tricks and chokes on hairballs.

Sonja from the Heathcliff comics, was the girldfriend of Riff-Raff who was the leader of the Catillac Cats.  They were stray cats who lived in a junkyard guarded by an incompetent guard dog named Leroy. Sonja lived in a music store with another incompetent dog named Bush

Stimpy was the cat who teamed with a Chihuahua named "Ren". The show's attraction is its shameless and gross physical humor, often consisting of nose-picking and farts. Ren and Stimpy was Nickolodeon's competion for MTV's Beavis and Butthead. The show dealt with serious issues such as cruelty to animals and military humor.

Sylvester tried millions of tricks, but never caught Tweety Pie, the canary, and always wound up being made the fool. Sylvester was created by Friz Freleng in 1945 for the cartoon 'Life with Feathers' where he first uttered those immortal words: "Thufferin' Thuccotash!". Mel Blanc supplied Sylvester's voice.

Thomas Cat is the famous feline half of the popular cat and mouse team Tom & Jerry. The characters were created by Hanna-Barbara for MGM and debuted in the animated cartoon "Puss Gets The Boot" (1939) where Tom was called "Jasper". Chuck Jones created new cartoon adventures for "The Tom and Jerry Show" in 1965. Tom is a fiendish opportunist, always anxious to ingratiate himself with the powers that be, wether housekeeper, dog, or even, on occasion, mouse. Tom routinely got chopped, sliced, diced (run over by lawnmowers or blown up) but still he kept on going.

The Three Little Kittens are from the nursery rhyme, "The Three little kittens, They lost their mittens, And they began to cry, Oh mother dear, We sadly fear, That we have lost our mittens. What! Lost your mittens, You naughty kittens! Then you shall have no pie. . . ."

Tiger is Fievel's constant companion in An American Tale: Fievel Goes West, Universal, 1991 Animation.. A large and extremely furry orange cat voiced by Dom DeLuise. Since he is a vegetarian he didn't eat Fievel on sight and is one of the two 'nice' cats in the AT world) Silly, fat and seemingly inflatable, he is the comic relief of the movie.

Tigger was created by A.A. Milne and featured in several Disney films. Tigger is one of Winnie the Pooh's friends. Milne's son, Christopher Robin, had a fascination for Winnie, a real life female bear at London Zoo. In 1926 Milne's first book about this loveable bear and his friends, entitled 'Winnie the Pooh,' was published. Tigger first appeared in 1928 in the House at Pooh Corner. Tigger is always jumping around and is known for his saying 'Ta Ta For Now'. Tigger's voice was by Paul Winchell.

Tony, "They're Grrrreat!" the Tiger was introduced to the world by Kellogg's in 1952 as the spokes-tiger for Kellog's Sugar Frosted Flakes. In 1953, Tony was featured in a four color spread in the August issue of Life magazine. His son, Tony Jr., became the trademark of Kellogg's Frosted Rice cereal. Since 1981, Tony's face has graced Kellogg's hot air balloon. Martin Provinsen, children's book illustrator, was the original designer. Thurl Ravenscroft provided the sole voiceover for Tony and his trademark growl: "They're Grrrreat!"

Tony the Tiger (Sr.) shared the spotlight with a smaller tiger character called "Boy" who later became Tony, the Tiger Jr. (voice of Jack Haley, Jr.), the mascot for Frosted Rice cereal.

Top Cat was a Hanna-Barbera cartoon from1961. Top Cat lives in a Manhattan garbage can on Mad Avenue near the 13th precinct police station. Top Cat cleverly devised get-rich schemes while keeping a look out for the local copper, Officer Dibble. The Top Cat character was inspired by the Sgt. Bilko character from the military comedy "You'll Never Get Rich." Top Cat (TC to his firends) and his pals Benny, Brain, Choo Choo, Spook and Fancy Fancy. Topcat Dressed in a purple vest and flat hat. Top Cat's voice was provided by Arnold Stang.

Top Cat's Gang was inspired by hit '50s TV comedy series The Phil Silvers Show (1955-1959) and the exploits of Ernest Bilko and his work shy motor-pool platoon, Hanna Barbera's Top Cat premiered in 1961 and ran for 30 episodes. It remains one of the studios most enduring creations... Top Cat - TC to his close friends - is the sharp talking leader of a merry bunch of Manhattan alley cats: Fancy Fancy, Spook, Benny, Brain and Choo Choo. Constantly scheming, their failed social climbing is observed by the local patrolman, Officer Dibble, who tries his utmost to evict the gang from Hoagy's Alley.
