|
How come cats can eat people food, but people don't eat cat
food?
Why don't people understand that no day is so bad it can't
be fixed with a nap?
You folks don't understand the value of doing nothing at
all?
Which is more beautiful: feline movement or feline
stillness?
Why do you care if I enjoy walking around with only myself?
How long can a cat be cute?
If we can do it, why can't humans potty train themselves?
Tell me what is wrong with stretching real good every
morning -- and every other chance you get?

The three great lies of a cats life are:
- I'll feed you in a minute.
- Now a bath will not hurt one bit.
- It'll be all right, just get in the carrier.
Have you ever considered what our cats must think of us? We
come home from a grocery store with the most amazing haul:
chicken, pork, half a cow. They must think we're the greatest
hunters on earth!
Show me a cat, and I'll show you a picture of contentment.
When have you ever heard anyone say of a cat, "Well, she's
very successful and lives in a beautiful house, but she's not
content"? One reason most cats are much happier than most
people is that cats aren't affected by all the small stuff!
That reminds me of something Snowbell said to Stuart Little
(from the movie). Stuart asked, "Snow, where are you going."
To which Snowbell replied, "Oh, I gotta yawn, stare at
traffic, lick myself. And believe me, that could take hours if
you do it right."

| Frequently Asked
Questions |
 |
|
Q: Is it okay to breed my pet kitten?
A: If it was sold to you as a pet, you
generally may NOT breed the cat. The breeder will have marked
the registration papers such that the kitten's progeny cannot
be registered. Many breeders insist that people buying pets
also sign a contract that their pet will be neutered/spayed.
Many require the procedure before the buyer takes the kitten
home.
Q: Will the pet males spray?
A: This should not happen provided the
male is neutered before he begins to spray, typically around 6
months of age. Pet females should also be spayed. Sometimes if
a household has more than a couple of male cats, spraying does
occur. Many vets and breeders now recommend that cats can be
neutered/spayed from 3 months as they have been in other
countries of the world for some time.
Q: Can I take my cat for a walk using a harness and
leash?
A: Yes, of course. Bengals adapt to
walking on a leash very quickly. Besides, we would much prefer
that than letting the cat run loose outside. I suggest that
you put the harness on and leave it for 30 minutes or so for
several days while your kitten is inside playing. This should
help him get adjusted to it. Next, attach the lead and just
walk around inside the house, until your kitten gets the
'hang' of it. Then take the kitten outside, but never leave
the kitten tied to a tree or unattended, it could strangle or
another cat could attack it.
Q: How often should I feed and water my
cat?
A: It is against the nature of the cat to
force it to eat only one or two meals a day. If given free
access to food, cats will eat between 12 and 20 meals a day,
evenly spread out over the 24-hour light-dark cycle. Fresh,
clean water should be available at all times.
Q: Do All Cats Purr?
A: Most domestic cats do purr, however
assertions have been widely made that the roaring cats (big
cats/wild cats) are not able to purr. However, researchers
have reported that tame, young adult tigers, leopards,
jaguars, and cheetahs purr in response to petting. There is
still some doubt about the ability of big cats in the wild to
purr.

While at the vets office the other day I was questioned
about the beautiful brown spotted Bengal kitten I had in my
lap. I explained that I was a breeder of Bengals and so on. Of
course the next question was, How much do they go for?
I gave the usual response about all the value one gets from
purchasing a Bagheera Bengal and then quoted a price range of
$600 to $1,000 for a pet. The lady gasp, and asked in an
unbelieving tone, That much? For a cat?
I responded by asking her what she had paid for the
Miniature Schnauzer she had in her lap. She hesitated for a
moment, then slowly said, $800. I just smiled and said
nothing more.
But I did get interested in seeing just what one should
expect to pay for a purebred, registered dog of the same
quality as I consider the Bengal cats I offer. So I did a
little research Google that is! Here are some excerpts from
some of the actual Dog for Sale ads that I found. And these
are very typical of all the ads I located.

Well, not being a dog person, I would not be interested
in buying any of these dogs, but I am proud and honored to be
able to offer some of the best examples of the Bengal breed of
cat at a very competitive and reasonable price. The price of
our kittens is consistent with what other reputable Bengal
breeders offer. Keep in mind, also, that with a Bagheera
Bengal you get much, much more than a kitten. The kitten we
offer to you is a cherished part of our family, recognized as
a living, breathing, product of Gods creation, with its own
unique personality.
With a Bagheera Bengal you also get:
- a written contract that protects you, us, and the kitten
- a written health guarantee
- necessary inoculations to date
- 5 generation pedigree
- health/vet record
- TICA registration papers
- Written instructions on how to care for your Bagheera
Bengal
- A starter pack of premium cat food
- Bill & Cathy as friends, advisors, and counselors

Mowgli's Musings |
|
|

Love has definitely been in the air here in Bagheera's part
of the jungle! The result has been kittens, kittens, and more
kittens.
Those without kittens to nurse and protect are also making
known their need for a little attention. For example, I
observed Patches the other day as she jumped up on the
recliner with Cathy.
She appeared unable to settle herself comfortably. She was
treading, kneading, rearranging herself, fidgeting,
vocalizing, getting up and turning around, falling off the lap
and getting back on again.
Whatever Cathy tried to do, Patches would interrupt! She
was not asking, she was demanding attention. Since she has
been 'fixed' so that she cannot have any kittens of her own, I
guess she was a little jealous of all the attention the other
ladies and their kittens were getting.
So, being the 'cat person' she is, Cathy turned off the TV,
put down the newspaper, and devoted a little quality time to
her. While it did not cure Patches' problem, it did at least
satisfy her for a time.
William Bennett, former Secretary of Education, once said,
"Happiness is like a cat. If you try to coax it or call it, it
will avoid you. It will never come. But if you pay no
attention to it and go about your business, you'll find it
rubbing against your legs and jumping into your lap."
